Chicken Cordon Bleu Casserole

Nice casserole created the night before popping it into the oven. Italian bread covered with chicken, ham, mushrooms and two cheeses. Casserole gets seasoned with Worcestershire sauce, salt and topped with seasoned croutons. A creamy sauce goes over the top of individual portions when serving.

Ingredients -
8 Italian Bread Slices, crust removed
8 Cheddar Cheese Slices
3 cup Cooked Chicken, cut into bits size pieces
8 Swiss Cheese Slices
8 Cooked Ham Slices
4 Large Eggs, beaten
2-1/2 cup Whole Milk
1 can Sliced Mushrooms
1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
1 teaspoon Coarse Salt
1 cup Seasoned Croutons, crushed

Sauce:
1 can Cream of Mushroom Soup
1/4 cup Milk
1 cup Sour Cream
1/4 cup chopped Pimento
 
Preparation:

1. Butter a 13” x 9” baking dish.

2. Line baking dish with Italian bread.

3. Top bread with cheddar cheese, cooked chicken, Swiss cheese, and cooked ham

4. Top ham with sliced mushrooms

5. In a small bowl, beat 4 eggs. Stir in milk, Worcestershire sauce, and coarse salt.

6. Pour egg mixture over casserole. Spread evenly. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

7. Take casserole out of refrigerator 1 hour before baking. Cover with croutons.

8. Preheat oven to 350 F.

9. Bake 1 hour.

Sauce:

1. Mix, and heat in saucepan.

2. Pour over casserole when serving.

Mushrooms
Fresh button or crimini mushroom slices would be a suitable replacement for the canned mushroom slices Fresh mushrooms will add texture and flavor not found in the canned variety.

Seasoned Croutons

Seasoned croutons can be purchased in the supermarket in a variety of flavors. You can make homemade croutons at home. Simply take some dry bread and sauté in oil or butter and cook until light brown and season them with the herbs and spices and other flavorings of your choosing.
