Chicken Stir Fry

Stir-frying is a quick and easy way to prepare meat and vegetables in one pan. The method calls for a wok, or rounded frying pan, hot oil and a swift hand. The ingredients are stirred or tossed at high heat, causing them to cook rapidly and retain much of their nutritional value. The resulting dish is a fresh and delicious blend of brightly colored, aromatic food that tastes light and scrumptious. Although it originated in China, the act of stir-frying has been incorporated into many cultures across the globe.

One key to creating the perfect stir-fry is to cut the ingredients into similar sizes. This allows for even cooking time and prevents both undercooking and overcooking of the food. Chicken is generally cut into strips before adding to the mix. Chilling the meat in the freezer for less than an hour will make cutting chicken easier and help keep the size consistent. Avoid using plastic utensils when stir-frying as the high temperature can melt the plastic. Sauces such as teriyaki, oyster and duck sauce are generally added near the end of cooking time to avoid burning. Whichever sauce is used, chicken stir-fry is a light, healthy alternative that should be added to the dinner menu. Stir-frying is a fun method of cooking and the results are as enjoyable to look at as they are to eat.
